Language Study That Fits Your Goals and Schedule
Develop your language skills through a study plan built around your interests, proficiency, and available time. SRAS offers flexible Russian and Ukrainian language study for educators, researchers, and other professionals seeking a short intensive course or a longer period of study. Other languages may be available by request.
Whether you are refreshing existing skills, preparing for research or teaching, or learning a language for a new professional direction, we will work with you to arrange an appropriate format. Instruction may be individual, in an existing group suited to your level and dates, or a combination of the two.
The program focuses on language instruction and basic local support, with accommodation arranged independently. Study is noncredit, and dates, duration, and intensity are agreed upon individually.
Program Details
Study for one week or longer, with dates and instructional hours arranged around your availability, language level, and goals. You may choose a concentrated period of intensive study or a lighter schedule that leaves time for work, research, or independent exploration.
Your study plan may include:
- Individual instruction: Work directly with an instructor on your priorities, from refreshing general language skills to developing the reading, writing, or speaking skills needed for teaching, research, or professional communication.
- Group classes: Join an existing class when your proficiency, dates, and length of stay align with an appropriate group. Group classes follow an established schedule and curriculum.
- Combined instruction: Pair group classes with individual lessons to address specific interests or areas needing additional attention.
Before confirming your program, we will discuss your goals and assess your level to recommend a suitable format and schedule. Availability varies by language, location, and time of year.
Choose from the following locations for Russian or Ukrainian study:
- Russian: Tbilisi, Bishkek, Riga, or Chisinau
- Ukrainian: Warsaw
Other languages may be arranged by request:
- Kyrgyz: Bishkek
- Armenian: Yerevan
- Georgian: Tbilisi
- Persian: Yerevan
- Polish: Warsaw
If you are unsure which location best suits your goals, we can help you compare options based on your interests, preferred dates, and available instruction.
An online language assessment early in the planning process helps us recommend appropriate instruction and, where relevant, determine whether a suitable group is available. We may also arrange an online meeting to discuss your goals and agree on priorities before arrival.
Instruction builds on your existing skills, with attention to the areas you most want to develop. These might include speaking more confidently, understanding spoken language, reading research materials, or improving written communication.
Individual lessons can incorporate vocabulary, texts, and practical tasks relevant to your academic or professional interests. Share any specific topics or materials during planning so we can assess how best to include them. Group classes follow their established curriculum, with individual lessons available to provide additional focus on your priorities.
The program combines language instruction with practical support for adults traveling independently.
- Before departure: We provide information to help you prepare for your stay and can advise on housing options if needed. You arrange and pay for your accommodation independently.
- On site: General assistance with program and local questions, as well as emergency support, is available throughout your stay.
- Credit and documentation: Study is noncredit. A certificate of participation can be issued upon request.
- Cultural activities: Where available, you may join existing group cultural activities at an additional cost. An organized cultural program and excursions are not included.
Your proposal will specify the instructional schedule, program fee, and included services.
