What is it like to spend a summer studying Russian in Kyrgyzstan? Join Anya Bernard, a Florida State University student who spent ten weeks on SRAS’s Bishkek: Russian as a Second Language program in summer 2026. Anya will share what she learned in class and through daily life in Bishkek, as well as her experience connecting with her family’s heritage. She’ll then answer student questions about the program and studying abroad in Central Asia.

Anya Bernard is a second-year student at Florida State University, double majoring in International Affairs and Russian Language. Her mother is from Bishkek, and Anya’s summer there gave her an opportunity to study her family’s language and connect with her heritage. She hopes to pursue a career in the U.S. Foreign Service, with a particular interest in Central Asia and Eastern Europe.
