SRAS works with faculty to connect students with the languages, cultures, and contemporary issues of the regions we study. Classroom support can range from guest presentations and regional resources to language workshops, tutoring, and conversations with native speakers, with activities adapted to the subject, level, and goals of the course.

Teaching and Research Resources

SRAS publications and online resources provide articles, interviews, cultural materials, language resources, and regional analysis that faculty can incorporate into courses or share with students. Students may also contribute through selected research, writing, and publication opportunities.

Group Presentations & Regional Discussions

Bring regional perspectives directly into the classroom through online presentations and discussions with SRAS staff or regional specialists. Sessions can address the Eurasian Corridor, language and identity, contemporary regional issues, or other topics relevant to the course.

Language Workshops & Tutoring

Connect language students with native speakers for structured conversation, cultural discussion, tutoring, or focused language practice. Sessions can support different proficiency levels and be designed around vocabulary, themes, or materials already being covered in class.

Sessions can be designed for individual students, small groups, or an entire class and can range from short speaking assignments to extended conversation or focused tutoring. Activities may be synchronous or asynchronous and can be built around course themes, vocabulary, readings, or specific language skills.

SRAS can provide established formats or work with instructors to develop sessions that complement material already being covered in class.

SRAS works with native speakers ranging from university students and young professionals to experienced language and culture instructors. Participants are selected based on the goals of the session, student proficiency, and topic, and are prepared to work effectively with U.S. students at different language levels.

Sessions can emphasize immersion and fluency or incorporate English when appropriate for beginners or for discussions focused more heavily on culture.

Workshops can be built around topics already being covered in class or designed to provide additional opportunities for language and cultural engagement. Topics can range from everyday conversation, family, travel, and student life to media, careers, social issues, the environment, idioms, and contemporary culture.

SRAS can provide vocabulary, discussion questions, or other preparatory materials as appropriate to the topic and proficiency level.
