Every year, SRAS welcomes FLAS students for Russian language study in Russia, Ukraine, and Kyrgyzstan. Many saw this disrupted in 2020, although many were able to use these funds for online study or defer them to 2021.
We know that FLAS applicants face multiple uncertainties at this stage. However, in addition to the usual “will I receive the award” question, there is the added COVID complexity of whether you will be able to use this award overseas, in a program of your choice.
We want to make this easy for you, to increase your chances of a successful – and funded – experience abroad.
As we have addressed in Summer Study Abroad 2021, we plan to proceed with study abroad in all SRAS locations. We are uniquely positioned to be able to offer back-up locations, in the event that border openings and/or visa processes delay the reopening of study abroad in one or more locations.
We encourage FLAS applicants to submit SRAS applications early. We will waive application fees ($50) for those submitting their summer application by February 15. Your deposit will only be due after you have received notice of your award.
In summer, the SRAS locations with intensive language study include Moscow, St. Petersburg, Irkutsk, Kyiv, and Bishkek. Where necessary, we adjust programming slightly for FLAS recipients to meet all requirements for contact hours.
