The Arts in Russia - Summer Art Program at the Hermitage

ABOUT SRAS / HISTORY
     Site map

The school began its work in 1990 with an idea to further develop and promote language and culture study abroad programs hosted by Moscow State University. Since that time, hundreds of students from the US, Canada, Europe, and Asia have participated in our programs. In 1993, noting that the increasing westernization of Moscow was making complete immersion in Russian culture difficult for many students, we decided to look east - to Siberia and the Russian Far East. Increased interest in Asia, including language, culture, and markets by both Americans and Russians led to the evolution of The School of Russian and Asian Studies (SRAS) in 1996 and to the development of programs allowing students to study in universities across Russia and Central Asia.

Ties between SRAS and Russian universities have strengthened greatly over the years. Today SRAS acts as an official representative office, promoting and recruiting students for all forms of study at several of Russia's top universities. In the past few years, we have seen increased interest not only in Russian language study, but also in degree and visiting scholar programs at all levels.

SRAS believes strongly in providing students with the practical skills needed to pursue interests or careers internationally. The process of designing a program best suited to academic and/or professional goals or one that matches specific budgets or scholarship requirements is a complex one. There are hundreds of unique opportunities for study in Russia and as they come to our attention, we make this information available to students, study abroad offices, and faculty advisors.

As we develop and constantly update this site, we provide you with the tools by which you can create a preliminary plan of study. SRAS consultants are available to answer questions during this process and work directly with you to discuss issues of feasibility, cost, and other factors.
