To celebrate 25 years in education abroad, SRAS has produced a commemorative cookbook: A Taste of Eurasia.
This beautiful 174-page publication is a collection of recipes that includes our favorites and those of our partners and friends who have helped shape our unique organization over many years.
It’s an eclectic collection of food, personal memories, historical and cultural insight, cooking-related vocabulary, and, of course, the story of SRAS. All of our geographic locations are covered as well – Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Central Asia, and the Caucasus.
Learn how to make khachapuri at home. Discover dishes specific to Siberia. Explore the Eurasian traditions of foraging, fermenting and pickling. See the many variations of Eurasian dumplings. Learn the vocabulary for discussing food in Russian. What about street and fast food in this region? How is respect for elders reflected in Central Asian food traditions? There is a bit of everything in this book.
Note: We have discontinued sales of this book so as to instead contribute them to the effort to raise funds for our colleagues and friends in Ukraine.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the cookbook and to our organization. Thanks as well to anyone interested in our work and in Eurasia in general.
