Welcome from SRAS! September always feels busier in Moscow. With the end of vacation season, people flood back to their jobs and schools, filling the city streets and subway with noticeably more traffic. This is also the time of year that SRAS publishes its big back-to-school issue of the SRAS newsletter. In our "Language and Culture" section, we have a summary of the new "changes" to the Russian language and the controversy behind them. You'll also find a new Olga's Blog (on the circus in Moscow) and a new Mini-Lesson (on childbirth in Russia). We've added three new additions to our "Politics in Translation" project, providing even more material to study Russian politics and advanced Russian language. Make sure to check out the "Business and Professions" section, which not only has an interview with an SRAS student who used her experience in Russia to leverage her career, but also job postings for those with Russian skills. You'll find lots of ideas on how to arrange and fund your own experience in our "Programs and Funding" section. We've also included several primary source documents for studying racism, the financial crisis in Russia, and the problems facing Russian youth. If you have views or material you would like to contribute to the newsletter, please contact us.
