European University at St. Petersburg (EUSP)
St. Petersburg, Russian FederationWhy EUSP?
EUSP is truly unique among Russian universities. It is free from governmental and commercial ties, making it an excellent place for training highly qualified specialists in Russian studies (see below), the social sciences and humanities. Its students have gone on to be very active in scholarly and corporate activities, as is evidenced in our interviews with IMARS graduates Sandra Evans and Neil Kumar.
Feature Program: International MA in Russian Studies (IMARS)
IMARS is a graduate program for students who already hold a B.A. degree or its equivalent and wish to expand their knowledge of Russia and/or former CIS states. The program offers students essentially the best of both worlds: a western-style education in Russia. The Russian educational system is very different (for example, they don’t use credits but rather “hours”), which can make navigating the system and attaining credit transfer complicated. IMARS, however, offers a widely respected program in the same format and same credit system as you would find in the States. The instruction is conducted in English by a qualified Russian faculty who hold degrees from American and European universities and by visiting foreign faculty.
The City
The University
One of Russia's youngest schools, EUSP was founded in 1994 but has quickly risen to prominence among world universities. A joint project of the St. Petersburg city government, Russian Academy of Sciences, and several learned societies with support from the MacArthur, Ford and Soros Foundations, EUSP now serves as an education and research conduit with the west. Its professors are active in the international community and in teaching students from all over the world. EUSP is specialized in graduate studies. Located in St. Petersburg, Russia, the cultural heart and an economic hub of Russia, EUSP not only offers excellent academic programs but also a practical opportunity to witness current changes in the Russian economy, government, theatre, music and everyday life.
